The WhatsApp section of the Settings tab is where a project’s number is connected and managed.
  • Not connected yet? You’ll confirm you have a Meta Business account and a number that can receive an OTP, then run Meta’s embedded signup. The full step-by-step is on Connect your WhatsApp number — this section links you straight into it rather than repeating it.
  • Already connected? You’ll see your profile photo, phone number, display name, and username, along with your quality rating, throughput, and messaging limit — plus a business profile form.

What you can manage here

  • Profile — your profile photo and the business profile form: about, description, address, email, and websites.
  • Display name — the name customers see in their chat list. Changing it is reviewed by Meta before it takes effect.
  • Username — claim an @handle so customers can find you without knowing your number. See Claim a WhatsApp username.
  • Business details — the industry category sent to Meta, and the rest of your public business information.
  • Quality rating and messaging limits — Meta’s health signals for your number: your current quality rating, your throughput, and how many unique customers you can start conversations with in a rolling 24 hours.

Changing your display name

Type the new name next to Display Name and click Request Change. Paige checks with WhatsApp that the request was actually taken before telling you it worked. If WhatsApp turns it down you get WhatsApp’s own reason; and if WhatsApp accepts the request but keeps no record of it, you’re told that too — rather than being left waiting for a review that was never started. Most names go for review and the status shows Pending review until WhatsApp decides; some are approved straight away. While a change is being reviewed the status turns yellow and a line underneath tells you which name is waiting. Your current name stays live on WhatsApp until the new one is approved. The status updates as soon as the request goes through, so you don’t need to reload the page.
WhatsApp allows 10 display-name changes every 30 days, and a request cannot be withdrawn — sending a second name does not cancel the first. Check the spelling before you click.
